CRAFTING STORIES WITH CARE
My work is guided by an ethics of connection and creativity.
I recognize that the stories I explore through quilts about heritage, comfort, and community are deeply personal and shared.
By centering lived experience, collaboration, and respectful representation, my practice seeks to honor the traditions and innovations of quilting rather than appropriating them.
I strive to create visual narratives that empower and connect, making space for diverse voices and histories that are often marginalized, overlooked, or misrepresented.
ABOUT THIS SERIES
In the rich tradition of quilting, every stitch and fabric choice tells a story, weaving together maternal narratives of navigating society safely, sharing memories, and creating connection. My quilts celebrate the art of quilting as a powerful medium, honouring textile artists and an art form layered with expression and community. Each quilt asserts a bold statement of warmth and solidarity.
This art form represents more than just domesticity. Each quilt in this series challenges conventional and outdated notions of textile art. The patterns and colours depicted refuse to conform to external expectations; they embody what it means to be vibrant, complex, and confident. By embracing their inner strength, each individual defines their own criteria for success as a maker, storyteller, and artist.
The act of quilting, traditionally regarded as simple handiwork, is transformed in this context into a powerful symbol of resilience, autonomy, and liberation. These quilts reassure and inspire.
