"This One Time"
Share Your Story!
Have you noticed your heart racing, your muscles tense, or your grip tightening on your keys while walking through a parking lot at night?
Many people have experienced this, yet few discuss it. These moments of vigilance are so common that they are often accepted as a quiet cost of daily life. When these experiences go unspoken, the burden remains invisible and is easily dismissed by society.
Silence reinforces the perception that this is normal.
By sharing these experiences, we make them impossible to ignore.
I am collecting untold stories and experiences for an installation that addresses embodied fear, intuition, and self-protection. Each story challenges the idea that these instincts are "part of life" and demonstrates how deeply rooted this vigilance is and how urgently it must be recognized.
If you feel comfortable, I invite you to share a moment when your awareness heightened, you monitored your surroundings, or your body prepared to defend itself.
Your story is important.
Placed alongside others, it becomes evidence. A collective truth. A refusal to stay silent.
Together, these stories can shift the conversation from acceptance to accountability and from isolation to solidarity.
